The research team, led by glaciologist Mauri Pelto, heads towards Sholes Glacier. This will be Pelto's 32nd year collecting data on Sholes Glacier.
The research team heads toward a campsite as Mount Baker catches the last of the day’s light on Thursday, Aug. 6, 2015. This is Pelto’s 32nd year collecting data on Sholes Glacier.
Glaciologist Mauri Pelto pours biodegradable dye into a runoff stream Friday, Aug. 7, 2015, in order to measure the volume of runoff on Sholes Glacier, on the northeast slope of Mount Baker. The glacier has receded more than 90 meters, or nearly 300 feet, Pelto said.

Erica Nied, center, makes her way across the icy runoff stream of Sholes Glacier to take depth measurements as Mauri Pelto records the data. Tyler Sullivan, right, and Ben Pelto, left, measure the width of the stream.
